Japanese actress Sonoya Mizuno —who tore up the dance floor with Oscar Isaac in Ex Machina— has joined
Constance Wu and newcomer Henry Golding in Crazy Rich Asians.
—based on Kevin Kwan’s book and set to be directed by Jon M. Chu—
will see Wu starring as
Rachel Chu, an American-born Chinese economics professor who travels to her boyfriend Nick’s (Golding) hometown of Singapore for his best friend’s wedding. Before long, his secret is out: Nick is from a family that is impossibly wealthy, he’s perhaps the most eligible bachelor in Asia, and every single woman in his ultra-rarefied social class is incredibly jealous of Rachel and wants to bring her down.
As THR first reported, Mizuno will play Araminta, the soon-to-be married fiance of Nick’s best friend Colin, who also happens to be a major fashion icon in Singapore.
The cast includes
Michelle Yeoh as
Nick’s controlling mother and Gemma Chan as Astrid Leong, Nick’s fashionable cousin who is referred to as the goddess and is known for her beauty and impeccable fashion sense.
